Day 20
So it's 2/3 into the Whole 30. Running total was 24.5 miles last week, which included a 10 and 9.5 effort. It was a bit much, but I managed a 10:08 pace the second ten miles. I was expecting a lack of carb/sugar crash this week. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. We had Henry's birthday party and it was tough to pass up the cake and ice cream. I haven't cheated on the diet. Actually it's getting easier to come up with meals. Been doing more BBQing and liking that. Ate fewer eggs last week, but still eating about 8 or so. I haven't reached a dozen yet, and don't expect too. I broke one rule and had a morning weigh in. I've lost an honest 7 pounds and can feel the difference. I get in one weight session a week. Made my second batch of Paleo granola on Sunday. It tastes soooo good with almond milk for breakfast. No sugar involved, but I suppose it's boarder line for the Whole 30. Has almond flour in the mix. This weekend I intend to make Paleo banana bread. Not sure if I'll use the coconut sugar called for on the topping.

Day 12
Had some light headed feelings and low BP, readings at 107/60, which is low for me. Mostly just after an exercise routine. Adding more salt to the diet may help. Did a meal out at Chili's. No problem with the ordering. Had grilled steak and shimp with onions and peppers. Needed to pick the cheese off my salad to avoid the dairy, and request a lack of cheese on the stir fry steak/shimp. Had a nice run with Danielle on Saturday morning for 59 minutes and 5 miles. We did a little walking, which was a nice break from routine. Planned to run 10 miles on Sunday, but had to cancel for rain and snow on Mother's Day. Moved the run to Tuesday morning.
I'm feeling pretty good, energy wise. Just the low BP causing some light headed feelings. Exercise hasn't been any problem. Approaching the middle of the program, which is supposed to take the most effort. So far, I'm never hungry and my meals are interesting. Had cauliflower as mashed potatoes, which was pretty good. Getting used to the lack of grains and no sugars in easy. Made a nut based oatmeal for breakfast, but the added dates made it pretty sweet. Also, very filling, so a little goes a long ways.

Day 9
Keeping on track. Ate 4 eggs yesterday. Three in a breakfast scramble with turkey sausage and one later after exercising. I'm eating a lot of eggs for the easy protein. Also, having a portion of meat at every meal. Spinach is a regular too. Got an interesting receipt for using acorn squash and sausage.
Been a bit light header last couple of days. After 50 minutes on the elliptical machine I was pretty bushed. Measured my BP at 107/60 when I got home. That's pretty low for me. This morning, still feeling a bit "off". Whole 30 site, search for BP seems I'm not the only one. The main suggestion is to eat more salt. Processed food is full of salt and I don't usually add it to a meal. I know water runs through me really fast. I'll try to add more salt and see it that helps.
I have a receipt from Paleomg for a banana bread. Only questionable ingredient is coconut crystal. Coconut crystal is about 35 on the sugar scale. I'd really like to try it, but may have to wait until the Whole 30 is over. It's amazing what can be done with a coconut.

Day 4-5
Made it through the weekend. Still eating eggs for breakfast. Saturday I fried up some beef burger with eggs and added some peppers. Need to find a breakfast food substitute. Lunch and supper not so difficult. Getting used to eating protein, and fat with veggies for breakfast is tough.
Found some receipts for a Whole 30 granola, that I can use for breakfast. Gathering supplies and will make some up on Sunday. Also, bought some organic butter to make ghee.
Did a 9 mile run Sunday morning. Ate half a Laura bar, half a banana and a cup of coffee PWO (pre work out). Not exactly the protein, fat as suggested. Run went OK. Longest I've gone this year, as the training runs will be getting longer now. Post workout was more scrambled eggs and some fruit. Next time will try a tuna pack or hard boiled egg. Need to bake some butternut squash for carbs.
Made the ghee. Wasn't hard at all. On the electric stove I started at mid/high heat and moved to under half power. That's a 4 on a range of 1-10. It took maybe 15 minutes to cook off the water and milk product. Had a dark brown substance left in the pan. Used a coffee filter to stain.
Baked up a granola receipt after the ghee. Used an almond flower, which is a little iffy in the Whole 30. Rest of the product is coconut (flakes and oil) almonds, macadamian nuts, punkin seeds and several dried fruits. Punkin puree and spice to give it some binder. Baked for 45 minutes at 275. Tried it Monday morning with coconut milk and a boiled egg. It was so much better than scrambled eggs. Kept me going until lunch at 11am.
Sunday night was tough having to pass on birthday cake and ice cream. Had a good supper of grilled chicken, so being full helped. Did my celebration with 1/2 a Laura bar.
I'm snacking, but not a lot, on sugar free coconut flakes, almonds, raw carrots and the occasional 1/2 laura bar. Jean made a really good vegetable soup on Saturday and I had some with a piece of BBQ chicken for lunch today. It's going to be hard to remember the protein, carb, fat combination each meal. For now, I'm feeling pretty good. Energy level is about the same. Sleeping most of the night.
So far, so good. Really wanted the cake and ice cream, or at least to lick the spoon....

Day 2
5/2/14 Second day on the Whole 30. Yesterday went well, which was the start of the effort. No hunger issues and felt fine the whole day. Did a 40 minute weight routine and completed it like normal. Last night I slept the whole night and woke up rested. Been eating two eggs and a raw veggie stir fry with coconut oil for breakfast. Really miss my cereal and banana. Rest of the day's meals will be ok. I do need to come up with another breakfast meal.
